Hello everyone. I am so very excited to be joining the Friends of Unity Blog hop. I have enjoyed them for so long and am beyond happy that I was asked to hop with them.
This months theme is Autumn Colors.
I love the colors of Autumn. I grew up in the hills of West Virginia and the fall colors were spectacular. It's one of the things I miss the most about my home state.
I had a few card ideas but I have had this project I have wanted to do for a long time so I decided to use this as an opportunity to step a bit out of my comfort zone and use my Unity stamps in a new way.
I had these flat 3" canvases that I have been wanting to turn into fridge magnets for a very long time. I used some cheap Artist Loft acrylic paint tubes that I picked up from Michael's and painted each one a different color. Then I dry brushed Raw Umber over these. While I had my brush full of Raw Umber, I brushed it over some white card stock so I could stamp sentiments on it later.
I grabbed my Copic swatch book and tried to match up some colors to the paints. I love this flower. It is from Unity's set Be Unstoppable by Graciellie Designs. I fussy cut them out, popped them up on foam tape and placed some neutral colored twine between them and the canvases. I used 3 different Unity sets for the sentiments I added.
I used this image from Pinterest for my color combos on the magnets and the card below.
I wanted to be sure to make a card as well. The first thing I thought about was blending Distress Oxides so that is what I did.
I started with a piece of white card stock that was bigger than an A2 size card so I could trim it down and have the edges not have the ink built up on them. I ripped a piece of the wider purple tape in half and placed them slightly apart on the card stock. I blended the green first and then moved the tape so one piece covered the green and the other piece left a similar space and then I blended the yellow. I just kept moving the tape until I had done the orange, red and then the brown. I pulled the tape off used a much lighter yellow on the rest of the card.
I took the lovely Graciellie Designs set from Unity Stamp Co called Obsessively Grateful. I quickly ran a heat tool over the blended oxides because I wanted to use embossing power on the rest of the stamping. Make sure to use a powder tool also. I stamped the middle leaf and the word Fall and heat embossed them in black. I added the other to leaves and did the same. The word Beautiful came from a set of wood pieces Unity sold a while ago. I dabbed the red oxide on it and then Versamark ink and clear embossing powder to make it shiny. I punched a leaf 4 times and glued them together and blended the red and green on it and then embossed it with clear powder as well.
Be sure to check out the rest of the hop. There are some awesome giveaways with this hop, including one from me to celebrate my first month hopping with the Friends of Unity Blog Hop. Be sure to comment on each blog to have your name entered in the drawing. The winners will be announced during next months blog hop.
